CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader used a racial epithet to insult Barack Obama in a message posted Wednesday, describing the president-elect in demeaning terms that imply he does the bidding of whites.
The message appeared chiefly aimed at persuading Muslims and Arabs that Obama does not represent a change in U.S. policies. Ayman al-Zawahri said in the message, which appeared on militant Web sites, that Obama is “the direct opposite of honorable black Americans” like Malcolm X, the 1960s African-American rights leader.

In al-Qaida’s first response to Obama’s victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect—along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice—”house negroes.”

Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term “abeed al-beit,” which literally translates as “house slaves.” But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as “house negroes.”

The message also includes old footage of speeches by Malcolm X in which he explains the term, saying black slaves who worked in their white masters’ house were more servile than those who worked in the fields. Malcolm X used the term to criticize black leaders he accused of not standing up to whites.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the latest message was just “more despicable comments from a terrorist.”

The 11-minute 23-second video features the audio message by al-Zawahri, who appears only in a still image, along with other images, including one of Obama wearing a Jewish skullcap as he meets with Jewish leaders. In his speech, al-Zawahri refers to a Nov. 5 U.S. airstrike attack in Afghanistan, meaning the video was made after that date.

Al-Zawahri said Obama’s election has not changed American policies he said are aimed at oppressing Muslims and others.

“America has put on a new face, but its heart full of hate, mind drowning in greed, and spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism continue to be the same as always,” the deputy of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden said.

He said Obama’s plan to shift troops to Afghanistan is doomed to failure, because Afghans will resist.

“Be aware that the dogs of Afghanistan have found the flesh of your soldiers to be delicious, so send thousands after thousands to them,” he said.

Al-Zawahri did not threaten specific attacks, but warned Obama that he was “facing a Jihadi (holy war) awakening and renaissance which is shaking the pillars of the entire Islamic world; and this is the fact which you and your government and country refuse to recognize and pretend not to see.”

He said Obama’s victory showed Americans acknowledged that President George W. Bush’s policies were a failure and that the result was an “admission of defeat in Iraq.”

But Obama’s professions of support for Israel during the election campaign “confirmed to the Ummah (Islamic world) that you have chosen a stance of hostility to Islam and Muslims,” al-Zawahri said.

Barack Obama campaigned on a pledge to change Washington, vowing to upend the K Street lobbying culture he encountered when he joined the U.S. Senate.

But more than a dozen members of President-elect Obama’s fast-growing transition team have worked as federally registered lobbyists within the past four years. They include former lobbyists for the nation’s trial lawyers association, mortgage giant Fannie Mae, drug companies such as Amgen, high-tech firms such as Microsoft, labor unions and the liberal advocacy group Center for American Progress.

Mark Gitenstein, one of the 12 transition board members who will play a significant role in shaping the Obama administration, worked on million-dollar lobbying contracts with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and promoted legislation for giant defense contractors Boeing and General Dynamics. Until this fall, he was registered to petition Congress and the Securities and Exchange Commission on behalf of AT&T, Merrill Lynch, KPMG, Ernst & Young and others.

Gitenstein has blue-chip credentials for the volunteer role on the Obama team. He was chief Democratic counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee during confirmation hearings for controversial Supreme Court nominee Robert H. Bork; was a close adviser to Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s White House bid; and served as counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

But his presence is also a reminder that Obama’s campaign pledge to keep his distance from the Washington lobbying culture may be tougher to fulfill than he anticipated.

“Nothing is going to change,” said Lanny Davis, a former special counsel to President Bill Clinton who did lobbying work for a range of companies after leaving the White House.

“From George Washington to George W. Bush, there has been a role for the lobbyist that is perfectly appropriate and good for democracy. The notion that there is something wrong per se with lobbying is ridiculous. But I favor more transparency and disclosure — online, in real time, for all lobbyists.”

The number of former lobbyists involved in Obama’s transition thus far is small compared with the past two transition teams, but they occupy several key positions. They include Biden’s incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, who was signed up to lobby for Fannie Mae until 2005, and transition co-chair John Podesta, who lobbied for the Center for American Progress until 2006.

After serving as a top aide to Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, Klain represented a company facing asbestos-exposure lawsuits, the embattled drugmaker ImClone and two companies trying to win support for large mergers. His completed his last lobbying assignment, helping Fannie Mae with “regulatory issues,” in late 2004.

Obama’s formal policy during the campaign indicated that there may be some role for lobbyists in his administration, though his rhetoric did not always convey that. In a 2007 speech, he said he was “running to tell the lobbyists in Washington that their days of setting the agenda are over. They have not funded my campaign. They won’t work in my White House.”

A few days later, he changed the phrasing to say that lobbyists “are not going to dominate my White House.”

Among the first acts of Obama’s transition effort was the release of a formal policy on lobbyists, which Podesta described as “the strictest and most far-reaching . . . of any transition in history.”

The rules ban lobbyists from donating to the transition effort and lobbying during the transition period. Once Obama is sworn in, his advisers must wait a year before attempting to lobby the administration on any transition issues they handled.

The code also says that “if someone has lobbied in the last 12 months, they are prohibited from working in the fields of policy on which they lobbied.”

That one could be tricky for at least two transition team members. Gitenstein lobbied Congress on a broad spectrum of subjects such as “legal reform” during the past year, according to disclosure reports. As a senior advisory board member, his work could touch on a range of topics that would pose problems for him.

Another senior staff member, Patrick Gaspard, recently de-registered as a lobbyist on health-care issues for the Service Employees International Union. He is the transition team’s associate personnel director.

Transition officials declined requests to make Gaspard and Gitenstein available for interviews but said both are adhering to the ethics code.

“Patrick and Mark have jobs on the campaign that are general in nature, but per the unprecedented ethics policy laid out earlier this week they will recuse themselves from the fields of policy or agencies they lobbied in the previous 12 months,” said Dan Pfeiffer, the communications director.

Efforts to control influence-peddling go back decades. In the wake of Watergate, Congress passed criminal penalties for senior presidential appointees who, after leaving their posts, lobbied their former colleagues within a year. The law was strengthened in 1988 to cover a wider range of government officials.

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Clinton pledged to toughen the one-year lobbying ban. Hours after his swearing-in, he enacted a five-year ban in an executive order that covered about 1,000 appointees. But in 2000, just before leaving office, he lifted the five-year ban, citing bleak job prospects for many aides in the face of a Republican takeover. Podesta, then the White House chief of staff, drafted Clinton’s revocation.

Past president-elects have had differing approaches to the transition period, which presents a unique opportunity for lobbyists to shape government in ways that could help their clients and enhance their own business. President Bush’s policy demanded that transition workers avoid conflicts of interest, according to Michael Toner, who was chief counsel to the 2000 transition team.

Toner said excluding lobbyists altogether never struck him as advisable.

“Campaign rhetoric is one thing,” he said. “You’ve got to have serious people who know the inner workings of government.”

Most people who hate gays, don’t hate them because of their sexual lifestyle, it’s because they are always whining, complaining and protesting, to push their agenda and people are just tired of it. Most Americans hate taxes and whiners (protesters).
Gays must of thought that after Americans making the biggest mistake in history and electing a radical liberal president, maybe it was their time. “It’s raining men! Hallelujah!” Not so fast! Barack Obama won the election because of a combination of the following: The Bush administrations reputation, the economy, the corrupt media, misinformed (stupid) voters, the brainwashed youth, a brutal McCain campaign ran like a democratic congress, ACORN voter fraud and people voting on race. He didn’t even win by a big margin and gays figured that the country was actually moving to the left. Well, gays and liberals (same thing) were wrong, most Americans are still center right, like it or not. Marriage doesn’t belong to gays, but domestic partnerships and civil unions do. Gays should be thankful that they even have a chance at a civil union, so take it and run before that disappears and then you will really be crying.
It’s also a real shame that a lot of gays are good people and like it or not, conservatives, yet these protesting, granny-pushing cowards ruin it for them. Some ‘rational thinking gays’ are against gay marriage and understand the true definition.
We think that the cowardly gay protesters going to black churches to protest, would make great television. Gays would claw and scratch and in the end, get a severe ass kicking. In fact, I would like to see the protesters protest a black church in West Philadelphia. We would pay for that; talk about UFC 100! They are too scared and cowardly, which shows that even gay protesters are judgemental and stereotype. They are also hypocrites and will continue to picket churches that do not agree with their ideology.

I love upsets, especially in college football and boxing. I never really cared about upsets in politics because you were still getting a corrupt liar anyway, most of the time. But this time it’s different and I am really hoping for an upset in this election because my life depends on it, literally. My home value, 401k, deferred compensation plan, social security, gas prices and most important, the lives of people in the northeast. While the northeast tends to lean liberal, I don’t want a nuclear bomb to kill them. I would prefer to have liberals deported for treason, or just for being ‘liberal’ period.
If Barack Obama become president, he would have pulled of the biggest scam ever and we will pay dearly. Therefore I am ‘anyone but Obama.’ If a nuclear missile hit Philadelphia, it would cripple the region between Washington DC and New York City. How soon we forget how terrorists just love this region and I have a good idea they are licking their chops at an Obama presidency. Joe Biden wasn’t lying when he said we would have a major incident to test Obama, but like McCain says, ‘we don’t have to.’ Id prefer we don’t have to have a major disaster to test a telephone pole stapling community organizer, ‘vote present’ Senator, who was running for president the entire time he has been in the Senate.
The reason I know most voters are so misinformed, is that they don’t understand national security and the economy. Did you ever here Barack Obama once in this election, mention homeland security? No, I guess that too is above his pay grade. Being a pathological liar and a phony isn’t.
Do voters really know how the economy works, what caused the downfall and how we can fix it, if it can be fixed at all. It’s too complicated to explain to most, but don’t take MSNBC’s advice and vote based on the most biased news station anchored by a miserable guy who can’t get laid, an angry lesbian who is jealous of Sarah Palin and a man who gets tingly feelings up his leg when Obama speaks. (Olbermann, Maddow, Matthews) Stay home, or take time to research and find out on your own, without canceling out the vote of a wiser, more informed voter who knows what is better for America than the misinformed voter does.
Under Obama, Pelosi and Reid, home values will continue to go down and gas prices will soar. Taxes will rise like the oceans Obama convinced you he would lower and your retirement will go down even further, as no one with money or brains will invest a dime into the markets under an Obama presidency. I get so mad watching the drooling ObamaZombie idiots clapping and cheering like they just won powerball, after hearing Barack Obama talk about windfall taxing these greedy oil companies. The ObamaMorons don’t realize the cost of that tax, will just be passed onto the consumer, which means you will be paying more per gallon of gas. Obama, Pelosi and Reid, also refuses to drill for oil, but it’s ok that the Chinese and now Cuba, are stealing our oil off the coast of Florida!
Under Obama, I almost can’t wait to laugh at the cars, with the partially scratched off Obama ‘Hope and Change’ bumper stickers that I will see at the gas stations, while angry, former kool aid drinking college students are paying $5 a gallon and wishing they had never voted for the messiah. They really deserve it, but people who voted for McCain-Palin, Ralph Nader or Bob Barr, don’t deserve it. These voters are more informed and didn’t get brainwashed because they were stupid and weak-minded. They were more concerned what was better for America when they voted, not who is winning Paris Hilton’s ‘best friend forever’ show. We can only hope Obama supporters stay home on November 4th and informed voters show up at the polls. We can only ‘hope’ John McCain pulls off an upset. If not, there will be a new definition for ‘disaster’ in the dictionary. (disaster- Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Biden)
